Finding the right employee
It’s your decision who you employ as an apprentice or trainee, so in addition to the usual recruitment methods you use, we can link you with:
1. Skillsroad Recruit
We can put you in touch with our specialist apprentice and trainee recruitment service Skillsroad Recruit.
We can also directly help you with any or all of the following aspects of apprentice and trainee recruitment, such as:
- creating an advertisement from the job brief
- posting to multiple internet job boards and/or local print media
- collating applicants’ resumes
- phone screening applicants against key criteria
- short listing candidates for interviews
- conducting face to face interviews and testing
- reference checking
- post placement support and sign up.
Phone 1300 363 831 to find out how we can help you with your recruitment of apprentices or trainees.
2. Job Services Australia
Job Services Australia is a national network of around 200 private, community and government organisations dedicated to finding jobs for unemployed people. We can link you with a Job Services Australia provider in your area to help you find potential candidates for your position.
3. Registered Training Organisations (RTO)
We can link you with your local Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to see if they have anyone suitable. Many RTOs provide pre-vocational or pre-employment courses where students have already acquired some very useful skills.
4. Group Training Organisations
We can link you with your local Group Training Organisations (GTOs). A GTO employs apprentices and trainees and hires them out to 'host employers'. The GTO is responsible for the quality and continuity of the employment and training, and provides care and support throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship.
5. Indigenous programs
If you are looking specifically for Indigenous employees, we can link you to Indigenous Employment Services
6. Schools
We can help you contact your local schools to let them know that you have a position available. Many will offer School-based Australian Apprenticeships training programs or they may be able to advertise the position to the school community.
Additional options include:
1. Advertise
You can advertise the position in your local paper or on the Australian Job Search website.
2. Word of mouth
Word of mouth can be a powerful recruitment tool. Let people in your industry or community know that you are looking for an apprentice or trainee. It can often result in a recommendation.
If you are a member of a business or trade association it should be even easier to find an apprentice or trainee by word of mouth.
Once your apprentice or trainee is employed, ABL Apprenticeships Centre will help with the signup process and paperwork.
ABL Apprenticeships Centre helps employers to simplify and streamline the appointment and administrative management of their apprentices and trainees - and helps ensure that all incentives and allowances are received.
Our services are funded under an Australian Government contract and are provided at no cost to you.
