What is the Increased Pre-apprenticeship Training Opportunities measure?

Under the Increased Pre-apprenticeship Training Opportunities measure, the Australian Government will provide funding to State and Territory Governments to develop and manage innovative programs and projects to expand the number of pre-apprenticeship training opportunities available for young people in the traditional trades.

What is pre-apprenticeship training?

Pre-apprenticeship training is a training pathway that prepares an individual for entry into an Australian Apprenticeship. It consists of off-the-job training with a Registered Training Organisation and may contain an element of work experience with an employer.

What is a traditional trade?

A traditional trade is a trade listed on the National Skills Needs List.

What are the benefits of undertaking pre-apprenticeship training?

Individuals will gain a more realistic expectation of the work involved in their intended trade, develop basic skills and acquire experience.

How will pre-apprenticeship training be delivered under the Increased Pre-apprenticeship Training Opportunities measure?

State and territory governments may submit proposals for funding to deliver programs that partner with local industry and training organisations to provide at least 150 hours of job focused training that also includes structured selection, mentoring and support of successful candidates.

When will pre-apprenticeship training commence under the Increased Pre-apprenticeship Training Opportunities measure?

It is anticipated that pre-apprenticeship places funded through the Increased Pre-apprenticeship Training Opportunities measure will commence from early next year.

How many places are being funded?

It is anticipated that up to 5,000 individuals could participate in pre-apprenticeship training funding through the Increased Pre-apprenticeship Training Opportunities measure.
